I successfully operated and managed a total of six different retail stores in three different lines of business for 20 years. There were up to 4 shops operating together at any one point in time. The lines of business were trendy gifts, upscale gifts , and jewelry.

1975-90 President Maxine and Donna, Inc. dba The Bird Cage and Summer's Place After the premature death of my husband I took over operation and management of four retail stores. Two were those mentioned above. The Bird Cage was a small gift and jewelry store on Kalakaua Ave. in Waikiki. It was very successful due to the shopping and buying skills of the former owners and its excellent location. Summer's Place on the street level of Ala Moana Ctr. had huge potential, but had just been opened less than one month before my husband's death.

These were both serious jewelry stores in King's Allley in Waikiki, now known as King's Village.  kThe Jade Tree had been operating very successfully for several years.  HMC had just been bought in May 1975.  Right after its purchase Hawaii experienced a severe recession which caused the value of this store to drop dramatically.

I inherited an operation which had large negative net worth, sold off part of it , went on to pay off the serious accounts payable debt of the corporations. In due time I went on to open two other retail stores on my own.

My expertise is primarily in purchasing and merchandising.  I also have a lot of experience in retail store layout and display, hiring, staffing and scheduling.  Budgeting for cash-flow considerations, and inventory levels is part of my skill base.

1990-98 President, Summer's Place Inc. dba Summer's Place and JW Dohrman There were two locations of Summer's Place, one in Ala Moana Ctr. and one in phase one of Pearlridge Ctr. The Ala Moana store was operated successfully for 20 plus years and the Pearlridge store for 11 years.

1995-present  Manufacturer's Representative for Russ Berrie and Co., Inc. Russ is a multi-million dollar international gift line whose stock is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.  I contact local retail customers to present our gift line.  I service  existing accounts and open new ones.
